Features of Our Ministry

As mentioned elsewhere, we strive to glorify God by proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and equipping His people through the faithful preaching and teaching of His Word, from Genesis to Revelation. In proclaiming the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27), we seek to be Gospel centred. That way the lost can be saved, and the saved can be matured in the faith.

Worship

God alone is to be worshiped (Mat. 4:9-10). We are to worship Him in spirit and truth, as He prescribes in His word, and not according to human inventions (John 4:23Exod. 12:29-32). Therefore, we seek to keep our worship services God-focussed and Bible-based. Furthermore, we believe that the whole family is to worship together (Deut. 6:5-7Josh. 24:15Mat. 19:14). We therefore have the children in the worship services. And we encourage families to continue their worship outside the services and at their homes.

The Apostle Paul exhorted Timothy to “preach the word … in season and out of season” (2 Tim. 4:2) and to “rightly divide the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). We believe this is best done by preaching and teaching systematically through the books of the Bible, interpreting the text in context, and faithfully explaining and applying the absolute truths from the text. Occasionally we do teach “topically” from the Bible, but most of our teaching/preaching would be “expository”.

We believe in the need for and the power of fervent and persistent prayer (Luke 18:11 Thes. 5:17Jas. 5:16). Therefore, prayer features prominently before (in the pre-service prayer meetings) and during our worship services. After all, God’s house is “a house of prayer for the nations” (Mark 11:17). And we encourage our people to devote themselves to private prayer and use opportunities for corporate prayer.

Our Lord commissioned us to make disciples of all nations (Mat. 28:18-20). This is done through the preaching, teaching (incl. Bible studies, and one-to-ones), training (exegesis and doctrine classes), biblical counselling, and outreach (in the neighbourhood) ministries of the church. We also support various missions financially and prayerfully. And we seek to equip and encourage our people to be witnesses for Christ in their daily lives.

Singing is an important part of our worship. Through it, we thank, praise, adore, declare, and implore the Lord (e.g. Psa. 4-68-9). Through it, we also teach and admonish one another (Col. 3:16). We believe, therefore, that our songs are to be rich in theological truth, balanced in religious expression, and suitable for congregational signing. We sing a blend of modern and old songs as we stand in solidarity with God’s people over the ages. Whether or not it is one’s favourite song, if it is the truth and it glorifies God, let us sing it loudly and joyfully together to the LORD! (cf. Psa. 95:134:366:8107:15).

We believe that the Lord’s Day (Rev. 1:10), which is the day on which of our Lord Jesus rose from the dead (1st day of the week) (Mat. 28:1-9) is a sacred day for the church to gather for worship (cf. Acts 20:71 Cor. 16:2; cf. John 20:1926). In order to delight in the Lord and benefit from His Day, we encourage our people to reserve it for worship, and to rest from regular work – works of mercy and necessity excepted (cf. Exod. 20:8-10Lev. 23:3Isa. 58:13-14Mark 2:27Mat. 12:12John 5:17).
